Charlie Wilson's War premieres in UK

The premiere for a new movie starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts took place last night in London's Leicester Square.

Although Roberts did not attend the event, Hanks took to the red carpet and was his usual charming self.

The Forrest Gump and Apollo 13 star's latest role is as the eponymous politician who successfully assists with what was known as the largest covert operation ever.

However, his appearance at the premiere saw him donning an Aston Villa scarf, the Press Association reports.

Declaring himself a fan of the football team, he said he "likes the team" and was pictured showing off his maroon and light blue winter accessory.

He also commented on the current US election processes, but did not reveal who he was supporting.

"You guys have all the luck in the UK, you get yours over and done with so quickly. We've got several more months to go. Ask me in six months when I've decided."

Charlie Wilson's War is due for release on January 11th.
