Full cast back for High School Musical 3

The widely popular cast of High School Musical and High School Musical 2 are to return for a third instalment, Disney revealed today.

The principal cast will be back for High School Musical 3: Senior Year and will begin filming this spring with an anticipated October release date.

Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel and Monique Coleman are all set to appear.

Although the first two movies were made for television, the third is to be shown in cinemas and is likely to include a similarly infectious soundtrack.

The sequel will follow each character as they face the prospect of venturing off to college and being separated, the studio explained.

"High School Musical 3: Senior Year takes these popular characters in some intriguing and entertaining new directions," said Oren Aviv, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production.

"The music, spirit and personalities in these films have touched audiences in a very special way."

In the meantime, fans can catch Zac Efron in the recent DVD release Hairspray.
