Actor Brad Renfro has been found dead in his apartment at the age of 25, it emerged yesterday.

He first appeared onscreen at the age of 12 in The Client, a fast-paced legal thriller based on a John Grisham novel, later starring in films such as Sleepers, Ghost World, Apt Pupil and The Jacket.

The Telegraph states that director Joel Schumacher said of Renfro: "He got the part [in The Client] of the wiseass kid because that's exactly what he is …he has the qualifications, being that he's the product of a broken home, extremely sensitive and too smart for his own good."

Renfro was discovered yesterday in his Los Angeles home. Although no cause of death has yet been determined, he had a widely reported history of drug problems and was arrested in 2005 in connection with heroin possession.

According to the Internet Movie Database, the actor had recently filmed a role in a new movie, The Informers.

The project was an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel and also starred Winona Ryder, Brandon Routh, Billy Bob Thornton and Mickey Rourke.
