Nominees unveiled for Bafta bash

4 stars out of 5.0
Period drama Cranford, which stars Oscar winner Dame Judi Dench, dominates the field in the nominations for this year's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) TV awards.

The show has picked up four nods, including Programme of the Year and a Best Actress nomination for Dench.

Dame Judi, who won her Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth I in Shakespeare In Love and also plays James Bond's spymaster boss M, will be up against Gina McKee (The Street), Eileen Atkins (Cranford) and Kierston Wareing (It's a Free World).

Andrew Garfield (Boy A), Tom Hardy (Stuart: A Life Backwards) and Anthony Sher (Primo) are in the Best Actor field.

In other nominations, Life On Mars, Rome and Skins are among the contenders for best Drama Series, while The IT Crowd, Peep Show and political satire The Thick Of It are among those battling it out for the Situation Comedy gong.

Britain's Got Talent, Have I Got News For You and Strictly Come Dancing are up for Best Entertainment Programme - and US imports Family Guy, Heroes and My Name Is Earl all pick up nods for Best International Programme.

The famous Bafta masks will be handed out on April 20th.
