Mammoth movie tops UK box office

Prehistoric mammoth-masher 10,000 BC has trampled the opposition to take the number one spot at the UK box office, new figures from Nielsen show.

The film, which is narrated by screen legend and Dr Zhivago star Omar Sharif, took £1.93 million on its opening weekend, knocking conspiracy thriller Vantage Point into second.

This week's box office bronze medal went to comedy The Game Plan, which stars Dwayne Johnson - also known as The Rock - as an NFL quarterback who discovers he has a long lost 8-year-old daughter.

It's intrigue a-go-go at four with historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl - starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson - while crime caper The Bank Job is at five.

New entry The Cottage, which stars The League of Gentlemen's Reece Shearsmith, King Kong's Andy Serkis and Jennifer Ellison, slashes its way to six, while Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes find themselves In Bruges at seven.

Uma Thurman comedy The Accidental Husband is this week's number eight, followed by Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour at nine.

At ten, Oscar-winning epic There Will Be Blood becomes the highest-grossing film on the chart, having taken a total of over £3.84 million at the box office.
