Raimi saving Jack Ryan?

3 stars out of 5.0
Paramount Pictures is reportedly in talks with Evil Dead and Spider Man director Sam Raimi to bring Tom Clancy's CIA spook Jack Ryan back to the big screen.

Tinseltown newspaper Variety says Paramount are keen to resurrect the character - who has been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck - after the strong performance of films he has previously featured in.

These include The Hunt For Red October, Clear And Present Danger, Patriot Games and The Sum Of All Fears. Together, the four films grossed $781.5 million (£393.7 million) at the worldwide box office.

Paramount hope that another Ryan adventure will generate a new series of movies about the character's early years, which Raimi would develop and direct, the paper says.

According to Empire, City Of God director Fernando Mereilles had previously been rumoured to be bringing Ryan back, with Half Nelson's Ryan Gosling being touted to slip into his CIA sneakers.
