Eastwood film saddles up for Cannes

Screen legend Clint Eastwood will premiere his new film, Changeling, at the Cannes International Film Festival in France next month, according to reports.

The BBC says the 1920s-set thriller, which stars Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich and Capote's Amy Ryan, tells the story of woman whose son is kidnapped.

Other films set for the 61st Cannes bash include Guerrilla, Steven Soderbergh's epic biopic of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara starring Benicio Del Toro in the lead and The Palermo Shooting from Wim Wenders, which stars Milla Jovovich and another Hollywood legend, Dennis Hopper.

All three films will compete with 16 other films, including entries from Canada, France, Israel, China and the Philippines, for the festival's prestigious Palme d'Or. The judging panel for this year's competition includes Sean Penn, Natalie Portman and Children Of Men director Alfonso Cuaron.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull will also premiere at the festival, along with Woody Allen's latest film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, starring Penelope Cruz - although neither are in the competition.

Clint Eastwood became a Hollywood icon after appearing in films such as The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, Dirty Harry and Kelly's Heroes before directing hits including Million Dollar Baby, Flags Of Our Fathers and the Oscar-winning Letters From Iwo Jima.

The Cannes International Film Festival opens on May 14th.
