Iron Man maintains grip on UK box office

Marvel Comics adaptation Iron Man has continued its blockbusting ways by holding on the top spot at the UK box office and becoming the highest-grossing film on the chart, new figures from Nielsen show.

The high-octane flick, which stars Robert Downey Jr in the lead role alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeff Bridges, clobbered new entry What Happens In Vegas… with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz to stay top dog - or Iron Man - in the chart.

This week's number three spot went to break up comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, while another debutant - technicolour sensory assault Speed Racer starring Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and Emile Hirsch - was at four.

Nim's Island made it two weeks in the top ten at five, while Bob Hoskins, Malcolm McDowell and Rhona Mitra led another new entry, apocalyptic thriller Doomsday, to number six.

At seven was Patrick Dempsey rom-com Made Of Honour, followed by Colin Farrell's black comedy In Bruges and Kevin Spacey drama 21.

Horror remake The Eye completed this week's top ten.
