Spielberg buys right to 39 Clues

Steven Spielberg has bought the rights to forthcoming adventure series The 39 Clues amid speculation he may direct a movie attached to the project.

There are ten books planned for the series, which is being described as a multi-media adventure, with kids around the world able to win a prize of $10,000 if they solve the mystery.

It focuses on the mega-rich Cahill family, whose ancestors include people such as Napoleon and Houdini.

The family's matriarch, Grace, offers her descendants clues to the "source of the family's power" which are hidden around the world in various periods of history.

It is thought the game will provide enough material for three or four movies, with author Rick Riordan having already completed work on the first book.

Spielberg is already confirmed to produce the first film and is thought to be keen to take on directorial duties also.

It was recently reported that Spielberg is in talks with India's Reliance Big Entertainment about a new movie venture.
