Alex Cox planning Repo Man sequel

4 stars out of 5.0
British director Alex Cox has been speaking of his planned follow-up to his 1984 cult movie Repo Man.

The original starred Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton and focused on their search for a 1964 Chevy Malibu with a mysterious cargo.

Now Cox is looking for studio support for a sequel entitled Repo Chick, which has been inspired by the subprime mortgage crisis in the US.

Talking to ScreenDaily.com, the maverick director said: "The repo business has expanded to everything from boats, houses, aeroplanes, small nations ... children."

He spoke of his movie plans at an event to launch his autobiography X Films: True confessions of a Radical Film-maker.

Cox, whose films include Sid And Nancy and Revengers Tale, was reluctant to go into detail about his attachment to Chumbawumba's forthcoming movie The Briefcase, but did say: "The subject matter is secret. But it is guaranteed to piss the right people off."

A retrospective of Cox's work is currently running at London's Barbican cinema until July 8th.
