Depp to play The Riddler?

Johnny Depp could be set to play The Riddler in the next instalment of the Batman franchise.

Producers are keen to sign the Pirates Of The Caribbean star for the role of the arch-villain following the runaway success of The Dark Knight.

Furthermore, Oscar-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman is being tipped to take the role of The Penguin.

The last time The Riddler was seen he was being played by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever, while Danny De Vito played The Penguin in 1992's Batman Returns.

A source told the National Enquirer: "(Producers) are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro.

"He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman."

Elsewhere, it has recently been reported that Wanted star Angelina Jolie is keen to play Catwoman in the follow-up to The Dark Knight.
