Audrey Tautou to play fashion legend Chanel

Audrey Tautou is to star as fashion icon Coco Chanel in a forthcoming biopic, it has been confirmed.

The Da Vinci Code star will portray the legend - who died in 1971 aged 87 - in a film entitled Coco avant Chanel.

Born in 1883, Chanel revolutionised women's fashion and is widely credited with popularising the 'little black dress' which can be found in women's wardrobes the world over.

Her legacy to the world of fashion saw her named in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Karl Lagerfeld will be on set to supervise the costumes, many of which will be direct recreations of Chanel's designs.


Among the celebrity names to endorse the brand are Nicole Kidman, Keira Knightley and Kate Moss.

Tautou is scheduled to begin shooting the movie in Paris in September, with a cinema release slated for 2009.
