De Niro walks out of Campbell film
The legendary actor was due to play a clean-up agent in the film alongside Mel Gibson, for whom the project represents a return to acting
However, it seems the Oscar-winning actor and Campbell may not have seen eye in the early stages of filming.
A spokesman for De Niro told Variety: "Sometimes things don't work out; it's called creative differences."
It is thought Campbell who directed the hugely successful James Bond movie Casino Royale will now shoot around De Niro's character until he can find a suitable replacement.
Gibson has had considerable success behind the camera in the past few years, helming films such as The Passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto.
In Campbell's film, his character discovers the secret life his daughter has been leading while investigating her death.
