School of Rock tops UK chartsThe comedy, set around a wannabe rocker pretending to be a music teacher, took £2.7 million over the weekend, Screen International said today. It replaced spoof horror sequel "Scary Movie 3" at the top of the charts - this dropped to fourth, taking £874,000. Romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give", with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton, came in second on its debut weekend with takings of £1.2 million. Tim Burton's "Big Fish" was third with £874,000, dropping from second. "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" fell two spots into fifth, but managed to bring in close to £730,000. "Lost in Translation", which earned Bill Murray an Oscar nomination for best actor, slid to sixth. Oriental epic "The Last Samurai" staring Tom Cruise also fell two spots, from fifth to seventh; and "Cold Mountain", staring Cruise's ex Nicole Kidman dropped to eighth. The final spots in the top ten were filled by "Girl With a Pearl Earring", in ninth, and cult classic in the making "Peter Pan" at tenth.
