Sci-Fi flick Back To The Future is family favourite

A new poll has revealed that Britain's favourite family film is the first part of the time-travelling trilogy Back To The Future.

Undergraduate researchers at Royal Holloway, University of London, interviewed 3,000 people, and the Michael J. Fox film came out on top.

The sci-fi movie was followed in second place by the Harry Potter films, the next instalment of which is due out later this year with an all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes, Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman.

The Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci comic caper Home Alone came third in the survey, while The Goonies, written by Steven Spielberg, was fourth.

For a film to be popular to the whole family, it was deemed that a perfect balance was required between comedy, adventure, romance, suspense and fantasy.

With former Spin City star Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, and Christopher Lloyd playing the eccentric Doc, the film came up trumps across the board.
