Reeves 'to star in Bebop adaptation'

Keanu Reeves has reportedly signed up for a lead role in the forthcoming sci-fi adaptation Cowboy Bebop.

Based on a popular Japanese anime TV series, the Twentieth Century Fox movie – movie will focus on a group of bounty hunters traveling through space in 2071.

No director has yet been confirmed for the project, which has been penned by Peter Craig.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Reeves will take the role of bounty hunter Spike Spiegel - a former member of a crime syndicate who pilots the spaceship Bebop alongside his colleague Jet Black.

Since first being broadcast on TV Tokyo in 1998, Bebop has built a reputation as one of the best anime series ever made.

Reeves has had some experience of the science fiction genre of late, having recently starred in The Day The Earth Stood Still, which was a remake of the 1951 classic about an alien visitor.
