Foxx gets foxy with Dreamgirls

Oscar-award winning actor Jamie Foxx is to appear in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

Having won cinema's highest accolade for his performance in Ray, Foxx has been in high demand, having recently finished work on other films including Rob Cohen's Stealth and Sam Mendes' Jarhead.

Dreamgirls, a story based on The Supremes, will be directed by Bill Condon, the director behind recent release Kinsey.

Condon will be hoping the film brings him as much success as Chicago, another musical translated to the big screen, for which he wrote the screenplay.

Beyonce Knowles has already been confirmed in the lead role, as she continues her acting career after her involvement in Austin Powers: Goldmember and the forthcoming The Pink Panther.

Another singer dabbling in the art of acting is Usher, who is expected to feature, his only other significant roles coming in the comedy She's All That, and The Faculty.
