Pedro Almodovar produces 'naughty' short film

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has produced his first short film in 30 years.

The Oscar-winning director premiered La Concejala Antropofaga (The Cannibalistic Councilwoman) on Spanish television last week.

It is a spin-off from his upcoming release Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces), a film-noir style offering which stars Penelope Cruz in a four-way love story.

She has been hailed as the director's muse and played the lead in his best-known picture Volver.

The short film is a monologue of a local politician driven with desire to eat someone, played by Carmen Machi, who appears as a minor character in the main movie.

Ms Cruz is currently starring in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona alongside her real-life boyfriend Javier Barden and Scarlet Johansson.

She has been tipped to win an Oscar, with other favourites including Heath Ledger for best supporting actor and Slumdog Millionaire for best film.
