Slumdog returns to top of UK box office

Slumdog Millionaire has reclaimed the number one spot on the UK box office chart after its huge success at the Oscars.

Danny Boyle's Mumbai-set drama scooped multiple awards at last month's ceremony, including best picture and best director.

It has returned to the top of the chart in its eighth week on release, having raked in an impressive £1.67 million.

Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino went straight in at number two, making it the veteran actor and director's best-ever UK opening.

The film, which stars Eastwood as a curmudgeonly Korean war veteran forced to interact with the Asian families in his community, earned £1.35 million in its first week on release.

Horror film The Unborn made its debut at number three, while last week's number one film - Disney animation Bolt – slipped back to fourth position.

Romantic comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy, completed the top five.
