DiCaprio to star in civil war drama
The film, called The Blood Diamond, will see DiCaprio play the role of a drug smuggler who sells the precious stone to fund rebellions.
He then becomes involved with the son of a farmer who has been recruited into an army of child soldiers.
The Blood Diamond will be directed by Ed Zwick, whose most recent work was The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise.
Zwick has also directed Courage Under Fire and The Siege, both with Denzel Washington, and Legends Of The Fall, starring Brad Pitt and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
DiCaprio, the star of The Aviator and Gangs Of New York, is currently filming another Martin Scorsese project, The Departed.
He is also set to star in the adaptation of the classic Ernest Hemingway novel For Whom The Bell Tolls.
Filming for The Blood Diamond is expected to start early next year.
