Panel decides Britain's top ten actors
The programme, screened last night, was the result of discussions by six panellists including film critic Barry Norman and former National Theatre director Sir Richard Eyre.
Among those who feature in the top ten are Daniel Day-Lewis, the star of My Left Foot, The Last Of The Mohicans and Gangs Of New York and Sir Anthony Hopkins, famous for his role as Hannibal Lecter in Silence Of The Lambs, Hannibal and Red Dragon.
Lord Of The Rings actor Sir Ian McKellen features, as does Sir Alec Guinness who appeared in Star Wars: Episodes IV, V and VI.
There is also a place in the top ten for the Shakespeare specialist Kenneth Branagh, who has starred in Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello and Hamlet.
Sir John Gielgud, Cary Grant, Charles Laughton, Sir Laurence Olivier and Peter Sellers made up the rest of the list.
