Film festival kicks-off in Cannes
An audience of elegantly-dressed stars happily donned their 3D glasses to view the film, which features an old man who attaches a balloon to his home and sets out to fulfil his dream of travelling around South America, Variety reports.
Guests at the Salon des Ambassadeurs dinner apparently enthused about the film, which was somewhat of a departure from the traditional Cannes opener.
Also to feature at the festival are Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock.
The latest film from Pulp Fiction director Tarantino features Brad Pitt, Samuel L Jackson and Diane Kruger and follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers in Nazi-occupied WW2 France.
It will be the director's first feature since 2007's Death Proof starring Kurt Russell as a murderous stuntman who stalks beautiful women.
