Leicester Square becomes nanny state
Leicester Square was packed on Saturday night to see Thompson, who wrote the screenplay, along with the film's other stars Colin Firth (Bridget Jones' Diary, The Girl With A Pearl Earring, Shakespeare In Love) Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Chicken Run) and Murder She Wrote star Angela Landsbury .
The film stars Thomson in a role compared to Mary Poppins, though as a haggered and severe old nanny it is only the magical powers that Thomson appears to share with Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music).
Colin Firth plays a recently widowed father, struggling to raise his boisterous kids whose life is changed forever by the arrival of the mysterious nanny.
The mercurial mixture of mischief and magic opens at cinemas across the country on October 21st.
