Battle of the sequels as Ice Age and Transformers freeze out box office competition
Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs has tied with the Transformers sequel to open at number one on the U.S. box office chart over the Independence Day weekend (03-05Jul09). The third installment of the Ice Age franchise was already making waves upon its release on Wednesday (01Jul09), when it set a new record for the biggest opening day gross for an animated film with £9.2 million. Its popularity continued as families took advantage of the three-day holiday weekend, taking Ice Age 3 to number one alongside last week's (ends28Jun09) chart-topper Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with £85 million. Johnny Depp's new gangster movie Public Enemies grossed £17.5 million, rounding out the top three. Titles related to this articleRelated/similar articles
