Producer Jane Rosenthal, who also made Analyze That, Meet The Parents and Marvin's Room (all of which starred De Niro), told Daily Variety: "He did say that he wouldn't play a mafia character. "But along came Don Winslow, who created a perfect character. The lesson here is, never say never." De Niro is to star in a movie version of the book The Winter Of Frankie Machine by Winslow as a hit man who turns his back on violence to run a bait shop. However, things get complicated when he finds out he has been targeted for a hit. His great mafia roles featured in the films The Godfather Part II, Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In America, Goodfellas and Casino among others.
