Dirty Dancing remake in the works
Uptown Girl's writer Julia Dahl has been recruited to script the remake of the original film, which starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.
It follows the story of teenager Frances Houseman, aka Baby, who falls for the dance instructor at a holiday camp she is visiting with her parent in the summer of 1963.
The film was a massive global box office phenomenon, scooping more than $200 million (£120 million) in ticket sales worldwide.
A sequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was released in 2004, but is failed to have the same impact on the cinematic world as the iconic original.
If the remake goes ahead, it would follow hot on the heels of another classic dance flick Footloose, which is being remade by Kenny Ortega.
Ortega also directed the Michael Jackson memorials and is behind the planned This is It documentary based on the footage filmed during rehearsals for the singer's final concerts.
