Guy Ritchie to direct Lobo
Ritchie will start on the film his follow-up to the forthcoming Sherlock Holmes early in 2010, reports Variety.
Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Hancock's Akiva Goldsman will produce the most recent draft of the script, which was penned by Simpsons writer Don Payne.
The Lobo character originated in 1983's Omega Man and has had several comic book incarnations.
In the film, he will take the form of a seven-foot-tall blue-skinned antihero who joins forces with a teenage girls to protect earth from dangerous fugitives.
Ritchie made his name directing gritty gangster films Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels but has since struggled to emulate the same success.
His latest film Sherlock Holmes features a star-studded cast that includes Rachel McAdams, Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law and it is due in UK cinemas on Boxing Day.
