Oliviers give the nod to Hollywood
The awards that honour the best of actors, plays and shows in London include nominations for Billy Elliot The Musical, Ewan McGregor, and Brian Dennehy.
The stage version of Billy Elliot with music from Elton John, based on the film starring Jamie Bell and Julie Walters, is up for best new musical against Victoria Wood's Acorn Antiques The Musical.
Walters (Educating Rita, Calendar Girls) is also nominated for her role in Wood's comedy musical.
Guys And Dolls, which as a movie starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, returned to the London stage last year and its stars were also recognised.
Ewan McGregor (Big Fish, Down With Love) was nominated for best actor in a musical with co-star Douglas Hodge (The Trial, Vanity Fair).
Brian Dennehy (Rambo - First Blood, Presumed Innocent) was also nominated for his role in the Arthur Miller play Death Of A Salesman.
Last year's winners were also dominated by the film world. The Producers, Mel Brooks' musical based on his film, and its star Nathan Lane took home Oliviers along with Laura Michelle Kelly in the stage version of Mary Poppins.
