Spider-Man to find new love
Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of director Ron Howard and star of Lars von Trier's Manderlay and M Night Shyamalan's The Village, is to join the cast in the next instalment of spider action.
She will play Gwen Stacey, a friend of Mary-Jane who eventually takes Peter Parker's eye.
Kirsten Dunst (Interview With The Vampire, The Virgin Suicides) will return to play Mary-Jane and will be joined by Mona Lisa Smile co-star Topher Grace, as Venom, and Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) playing Sandman.
In the comic books Gwen Stacey meets a terrible end at the hands of the Green Goblin, but it is uncertain if her fate will be repeated in the film, especially as the Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe died in the first of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.
James Franco will also return to the film series as the Green Goblin's son Harry Osborn.
