Disney ditch Elton movie
The last project that Elton and Disney collaborated on, The Lion King, was a runaway success and included a stellar Hollywood cast, with James Earl Jones (Star Wars, Gang Related, Robots) Matthew Broderick (The Producers, Godzilla, Inspector Gadget) and Jeremy Irons (Lolita, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Man In The Iron Mask) providing voices for the characters.
Although Disney was thought to have got the signatures of Ewan Mcgregor (Moulin Rouge,Trainspotting, Shallow Grave) and Kate Winslet (Titanic, Holy Smoke, Quills) to star in Elton's scaled down version of Shakespeare's love story, the film is thought to have fallen foul of Pixar executives John Lasseter and Ed Catmull.
Elton's Rocketman company would have been responsible for the production and the film score but even a rendition of Crocodile Rock at an early meeting wasn't enough to convince the studio bigwigs.
