The Princess and the Frog tops US box office
The family cartoon, which made $25 million (£15.4 million) over its opening weekend, is Disney's first feature made with traditional hand-drawn animation since 2004's Home on the Range.
Set in Jazz Age-era New Orleans, the film centres on a young girl named Princess who meets a frog prince.
Last week's number one The Blind Side dropped to second place, while new entry Invictus took the third spot. The Clint Eastwood film about 1995's Rugby World Cup in South Africa made $9.1 million over its opening weekend.
At fourth place, The Twilight Saga: New Moon took $8 million, bringing its box office total over its four weeks in cinemas to $267.4 million, while A Christmas Carol dropped one place to the fifth spot.
Brothers dropped three places to number six, while disaster film 2012 took the seventh spot.
Old Dogs, Armored and Ninja Assassin rounded off the list.
