Avatar regains top spot in UK box office
The sci-fi film, which was knocked off the top spot last week by Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, took £5.9 million, bringing its UK box office total to £32.8 million.
Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie's new film, moved up one place to claim the second position, netting £3.4 million.
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel fell two places to three, while new entry Did You Hear About The Morgans?, which stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant, claimed the fourth place.
Nine, the Daniel Day-Lewis film which has been nominated for five Golden Globes, rose one place to number five.
St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold, fell to the sixth place, while 3 Idiots took the seventh spot.
Sam Taylor Wood's Nowhere Boy, which chronicles John Lennon's childhood, fell one place to number eight, despite increasing its box office takings by 59 per cent.
New Moon and Planet 51 rounded off the list.
