Doug Liman: Fair Game is the film of my career
Speaking at Cannes Film Festival, Liman, whose works include the first Jason Bourne movie and Mr & Mrs Smith, said he had previously failed to make films which were both "entertaining and meaningful".
According to Digital Spy, the director said: "I've not succeeded so well in the past. For instance Bourne Identity was supposed to be a retelling of Iran-Contra, which my father ran the investigation on and the American people didn't pay attention to. I thought I'd couch it in a spy movie and Chris Cooper's going to play Oliver North and nobody got it."
Fair Game, which stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn, tells the story of Valerie Plame, a CIA agent whose secret identity was revealed by White House officials allegedly out to discredit her husband, who had claimed that the Bush administration had manipulated intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq.
