Rodriguez's Predators is 15 years old
The movie star-turned-politician starred in the first Predator movie in 1987 and was initially interested in returning for a third film after 1990's Predators 2.
But he passed on Rodriguez's idea to take the franchise into deep space and the film project was shelved - until now.
Rodriguez explains, "Fifteen years ago the executives at Fox came to me to write a script for a Predators sequel with Arnold in it. They wanted to do something different and not go back to the jungle. So I proposed something different, a jungle on another planet so it would expand the world and I wrote it. But Arnold didn't want to do another Predator after all and they ended up doing the Alien vs. Predator film.
"I totally forgot about it... and then they brought it to me last year, seeing how other franchises like Batman have been brought back to life. They went into their vault of characters and Predators is one of the most enduring, so they wanted me to write the script but take out the Arnold character."
