Sylvester Stallone: Batman changed action movies forever
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the actor, who will next be seen in The Expendables, said director Tim Burton's decision to put Michael Keaton in a muscle suit ensured that effects became more important.
Stallone, who has starred in the Rocky and Rambo films, added: "The action movies changed radically when it became possible to Velcro your muscles on.
"It was the beginning of a new era. The visual took over. The special effects became more important than the single person. That was the beginning of the end."
The actor is starring alongside Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture and Steve Austin in The Expendables, which sees a team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator.
Directed by Stallone, the film will be released on August 19th in the UK.
