Hutchence biopic finally gathering momentum
Walk The Line, Ray, Last Days and the upcoming release of I'm Not There bear testament to this, apart from I'm Not There, for in fact Bob Dylan, unlike Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and Kurt Cobain, is still alive and kicking.
And the next music star to be given his biopic passport to music immortality appears to be former Inxs frontman Michael Hutchence.
After several years in development hell Hutchence's biopic, entitled Slide Away, is ready to start filming.
Music video director Nick Egan is on board and Chester Hastings will be writing the screenplay for the Clark Westerman produced project.
Westerman told the Hollywood Reporter how it took him five years to coax Egan to sign on for the movie, and how it was the popularity of the band's reality TV search for a new front man that finally persuaded him.
"I told him, 'Somebody else is going to do it, and they are not going to do it as well as you would because you knew him so well'."
Describing his vision for the film, Westerman said that it wouldn't focus on the tragic death of the singer, revealing: "That is not the memory of what we are after, and that's not the story of who the man is. What we are aiming for is the journey through a person's life via their head."
