Zac Efron: I'd like to play realistic roles
However, the 22-year-old actor admitted that there are a number of characters which would be difficult to play, stating that he would not want to "misrepresent" himself.
Speaking to the Times, Efron added that he would consider a difficult part in the future if he could "identify" with the script, but warned that the commercial side of movie making has made it harder for such films to be produced.
He explained: "It's a different time now. It's harder to get those films made. Also, it has to be roles that I can identify with and relate to. I wouldn't do it just to do it."
The actor will next be seen in The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, which is due for release on October 8th.
In the film, he plays a young man who is overcome by grief at the death of his younger brother.
