Neeson replacing Gibson in The Hangover sequel
The Braveheart star was expected to make his career comeback with a guest role in the upcoming comedy after a tough few months following his split from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who has accused the actor of beating her during a violent altercation earlier this year (10).
However, his light-hearted appearance was axed this week (begs18Oct10) following reports the movie's cast angrily objected to sharing the spotlight with the troubled star.
In a statement, director Todd Phillips said: "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of (Warner Brothers boss) Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realise filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."
Neeson tells trade paper Variety, "I just got a call to do a one day shoot on Hangover as a tattooist in Thailand... That's all I know about it."
