Saw 3D tops US box office

With Halloween in full swing, the latest addition to the Saw franchise has topped the US box office.

Saw 3D, which stars Tobin Bell and Costas Mandylor, knocked another scary film and last week's number one – Paranormal Activity 2 - from the top of the chart.

Paranormal Activity 2 claimed the second spot, while Red, starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, remained at three. It tells the story of a former black-ops agent whose life is at risk because of a high-tech assassin.

Jackass 3D slipped two places to four, while Hereafter also fell one to five. Directed by Clint Eastwood, Hereafter focuses on three people from three countries who have been touched by death in different ways.

Randall Wallace's Secretariat remained at six, ahead of The Social Network, which slipped from five to seven.

Life As We Know It, The Town and Conviction rounded off the top ten list.
