Saoirse Ronan to star in The Hobbit
The casting director of The Hobbit: Part 1 and 2, Ros Hubbard, told IFTN that the 16-year-old actress would take on the role, which also stars other Irish stars including Aidan Turner and James Nesbitt.
Despite her young age, Ronan has previously been nominated for the best actress Oscar, thanks to her role in Atonement.
She also won the Critics Choice best young actress accolade her role in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones.
Jackson will direct The Hobbit films, which will also star Cate Blanchett, Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis.
Hubbard also admitted that there is a family atmosphere on the set of the film, stating that all of Nesbitt's family have travelled to New Zealand for filming.
"Saoirse's family will go too, everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs. It's not like typical studio movies at all," he revealed.
