James Cameron: I was inspired by nature for Sanctum
The movie, which stars Rhys Wakefield, Allison Cratchley and Christopher Baker, focuses on an underwater cave diving team, who are faced with a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to one of the least accessible cave system in the world.
Speaking to Reuters, Cameron, who produced the film, said he used nature's unpredictability for the story.
He added: "There's a list of things we have to tell people that Sanctum is not. It's not a documentary. It's not a monster movie in a cave. There's no supernatural component to this. It's pure survival drama."
Cameron said the variety that the film offers and its unexpected nature is what propels the movie.
The Avatar director has previously won three Oscars, including the best director accolade for 1997's Titanic.
He is currently working on the next two Avatar films.
