Stephen Merchant: I'm not interested in Lord of the Rings
On BBC's Film 2011programme, the entertainer, who recently voiced the character of Paris in Gnomeo and Juliet, revealed he thought the films were too long, Digital Spy reported.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings was released in 2001, with The Two Towers following in 2002 and The Return of the King in 2003.
Peter Jackson's films, which are based on the books by J R R Tolkien, won numerous Oscars, with The Return of the King netting 11 alone.
However, Merchant described the films as "an endless journey that just goes on and on for hours.
"He destroys the ring and you think, 'Brilliant, how are they going to get home?'. Then a giant bird turns up and they fly home! Where was the bird at the beginning?"
Despite his dislike of the film, he admitted he would gladly take on a role in The Lord of the Ring's prequel, The Hobbit, which Jackson is currently making.
