Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules tops US box office

New film Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules has topped the US box office over its opening week.

The movie, which is a follow-up to last year's Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Rodrick Rules stars Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick and Robert Capron and focuses on two brothers who have to deal with their parents' attempts to make them bond.

It held off competition from fellow new entry Sucker Punch, which took the second place.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Sucker Punch stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens and Abbie Cornish and focuses on a young girl who is institutionalised by her abusive stepfather. The action-fantasy sees the girl retreat into an alternative reality where she plans her escape.

Last week's number one, Limitless, proved it didn't live up to its name, slipping two places to three.

The Lincoln Lawyer remained at four, with Rango slipped from two to five.

Battle: Lose Angeles took the sixth spot, just ahead of Paul.

Red Riding Hood, The Adjustment Bureau and Mars Needs Moms rounded off the top ten list.
