X-Men: First Class takes UK top spot

New film X-Men: First Class has taken the top spot at the UK box office, knocking last week's number one, The Hangover Part II, from the prime position.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence all star in the latest X-Men film, which is a prequel to the others in the franchise.

The Hangover Part II, which has so far received mixed reviews, slipped into second place. It stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms and is a follow-up to the 2009 hit The Hangover.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides slipped to three, while Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules took the fourth spot.

A few new films on limited release - JLS: Eyes Wide Open, Senna and Ready – performed well, taking the next three positions.

Directed by Asif Kapadia, Senna is a documentary based on the life of Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, while JLS: Eyes Wide Open follows the members of the British boyband.

Rio, Fast & Furious 5 and Thor rounded off the top ten list.
