Transformers: Dark of the Moon brightens up US box office
Transformers: Dark of the Moon has topped the US box office on its opening weekend.
Directed by Michael Bay, the film is the final instalment in the franchise which will star Shia LaBeouf. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Tyrese Gibson also take on lead roles in the flick.
It knocked Cars 2 from the top spot. The latest Pixar film features the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy and Michael Caine.
Meanwhile, Bad Teachers, starring Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake, slipped from two to three.
Monte Carlo, a film about three young women on holiday in Paris who are whisked away to Monte Carlo in a case of mistaken identity, opened at four. It stars Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy.
Super 8 slipped two places to six, while Green Lantern fell from three to seven.
Mr. Pooper's Penguins, Bridesmaids and Midnight in Paris rounded off the top ten.
