"There is a story" for new X Files movie
Saying that another foray into the science fiction film genre "would be fun", he also said that not only would he be excited about another movie but Gillian Anderson - who played Special Agent Dana Scully - would too.
"We're all gung-ho and we're just waiting," he told the industry website.
The first X Files movie was released in 1998 while the television series was in full swing and followed the agents attempting to unravel a government conspiracy about aliens colonising the earth.
It starred most of the cast from the TV series, including Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as The Cigarette-Smoking Man.
Since the show ended in 2002, both Anderson and Duchovny have appeared in a number of projects, with the former starring in A Cock and Bull Story with Steve Coogan and the latter in romantic comedy Trust The Man.
