Psychic thriller tops UK box office

A thriller about a man with psychic abilities has debuted at number one in the UK film chart this week, pushing motorbike comedy Wild Hogs into second place.

Next, which stars Nicolas Cage and Jessica Biel, tells the story of a man who can see minutes into the future and must be persuaded to help stop a nuclear bomb.

It generated a weekend total of £795,012, according to chart compiler ACNielsen, with the next highest new entry, The Painted Veil entering at number seven.

Bollywood musical Ta Ra Rum Pum was the third and final new entry in the top ten, placed behind Mark Wahlberg's action thriller Shooter at number nine.

Meanwhile, this weekend sees the first of the summer blockbusters to hit the big screen.

Spider-Man 3, featuring Tobey Maguire once again as the web-slinging hero, is widely-expected to feature near the top of the chart after its release this Friday.
