Pirates floats to the top of the chart
Eclipsing the film by more than £12 million in takings, Pirates pushed Spidey into second as the summer blockbuster season gets into full swing.
Third place was occupied by psychological drama Zodiac, in the chart supplied by AC Nielsen, while 28 Weeks Later hung in at number four after three weeks in the chart.
The zombie horror movie, which is the sequel to 28 Days Later, is one of four sequels in the top ten, alongside Mr Bean's Holiday, the aforementioned Pirates and the third Spider-Man instalment.
Meanwhile, Jindabyne - a mystery thriller starring Laura Linney and Gabriel Byrne - entered the chart at number eight, behind Bollywood film Cheeni Kum at number seven.
