Teen comedy Superbad is US #1

Fans of The 40 Year Old Virgin and forthcoming comedy Knocked Up are sure to be excited about a new film currently sitting atop the US box office chart.

Superbad, written by the star of the aforementioned films Seth Rogen and his friend Evan Goldberg, tells the story of two teenagers who attempt to fulfil certain rites of passage before departing for university.

Opening in the UK next month, Superbad stars Michael Cera, who Arrested Development lovers will recognise as the show's confused adolescent George Michael Bluth.

It also features Jonah Hill - a face British audiences may know from recent hits such as Evan Almighty, Click and I Heart Huckabees.

Currently, Superbad is trailed at the box office by Rush Hour 3 and The Bourne Ultimatum, alongside The Simpsons Movie and The Invasion.

Also in this week's top ten is Hairspray and the fantastical drama Stardust.
