Joy Division pic Control-s indie awards list

The race for prizes at the next British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) is being heading by Control, the critically-acclaimed biopic portrayal of the troubled Joy Division front-man Ian Curtis, it has emerged.

Control was co-produced by the wife of the late artist Deborah Curtis and has picked up a total of ten award nominations, including in the best director category, while male lead Sam Riley will be up for best actor.

Meanwhile, established favourites of many an award panel Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett will be vying for honours for their respective roles in the novel turned feature film Notes On A Scandal.

Blanchett, who starred in The Aviator and featured in the 'Lord Of The Rings trilogy, was in London earlier this week for the premiere of her latest turn as a queen of England in Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

The BBC reports that the winners of what will be the tenth annual BIFAs are to be revealed before the end of next month and that Daniel Craig of Casino Royale fame will be given an award for lifting the international profile of the British movie industry.
